AliExpress and Mercado Libre are leaders in Chile’s National Economic Prosecutor’s Office (FNE, in Spanish) report, according to La Tercera. According to the FNE, these two e-commerce giants generated $6.1 billion in e-commerce sales in 2019.

The National Economic Prosecutor’s Office filed an investigation against Mercado Libre and Chilexpress. In its report, it provided a detailed analysis of the e-commerce market to date, highlighting not only the strong growth in times of COVID-19 pandemic but also a reduction in the commissions that the platforms charge their sellers.

With data from 2018, FNE indicated that AliExpress was the leader in e-commerce in Chile, accounting for 35%-45% of the market, while Mercado Libre would have the second largest market share in the country, with 25-35%. These two accounted, then, for 60% of the e-commerce market in Chile, says the report.
