Amazon announced on Thursday that it will start to deliver same-day orders placed in some regions of downtown São Paulo.

According to the American e-commerce giant, same-day delivery is available to some items, with shipping costs starting at BRL 14.90 for Prime members and BRL 18.90 for others.

The announcement shows how the delivery of orders in shorter terms has been one of the big bets among the largest e-commerce companies in the country. Even more considering that with stores closed due to social isolation measures, millions of consumers have migrated to digital sales channels.

Last November, Amazon announced the opening of three new logistics centers in Brazil, bringing the total of warehouses in the country to eight. The rival and e-commerce leader in Latin America, Mercado Libre, also announced in the same month the opening of five new logistics centers in Brazil, which accounts for more than half of its revenues.

“The launch of the same day delivery is an important milestone for Amazon in Brazil”, said in a note the leader of Prime and Delivery Experience of Amazon Brazil, Mariana Roth.
