Chile: Mercado Libre to invest $100 million in logistics for two years

The e-commerce giant debuted on Wednesday its first distribution center in Chile

Mercado Libre will invest $100 million in logistics in Chile for the next two years. By 2022 the program intends to create approximately 5,000 new direct and indirect jobs, considering both the operations in the newly opened distribution center as well as in the distribution warehouses and new carriers.

The e-commerce giant debuted on Wednesday its first distribution center in Chile, which will strengthen the logistics of its platform, improving the supply chain in the country, América Retail reported, according to a press release.

Located in the commune of Pudahuel, in Santiago, this distribution center will be in charge of storing part of the stock published on the site to improve the delivery promise, reduce shipping times and ensure the good experience for both the seller and the buyer.

The Distribution Center is the company’s first step in its logistics plans in the country. By the end of this year, Mercado Libre will also begin to take charge of the distribution of the packages that are sold on the platform, through carriers hired by Mercado Libre, complementing the work of external operators. A dispatch of more than 500 vans per day is estimated in Santiago’s Metropolitan Region.
