With 1.65 billion downloads to date, Chinese short-video sharing platform TikTok has been going through a striking growth, escalating the competition against well-established social media players like Facebook-owned Instagram and Whatsapp. And going ahead with its global expansion, the Chinese app is now opening an office in Los Angeles, as announced by the company this Wednesday in a press release.
The second-most downloaded app both in the Apple App Store and Google Play store in 2019, only behind WhatsApp, TikTok is fast growing its presence in the US. In October, the social media company opened an office in Palo Alto, California, very close to Facebook’s headquarters, and has already 400 employees in the US.

“We’re proud to be bringing more jobs to the Los Angeles area and we’ve built a talented, passionate team here, including key leadership hires across functions like product, content, music, safety, and operations,” said Vanessa Pappas, General Manager at TikTok US in the press release.
