Online sales grow 15.5% at Christmas 2020 in Brazil, says Cielo

The index of the largest acquirer in Brazil points out, however, that retail as a whole has not yet recovered

According to data from Cielo, the biggest Brazilian acquirer, sales in e-commerce in Brazil grew 15.5% at Christmas compared to the same period in 2019.

However, considering the combined results of digital sales and physical stores, retail sales dropped 1.8% year-over-year, considering the period from 19 to 25 December.

The sectors with the greatest expansion in sales were supermarkets (+ 18.8%); furniture, appliances and department stores (+ 18.5%); construction materials (+ 18.4%).

On the other hand, the sharpest decreases occurred in the segments of tourism and transportation (-43.7%), bars and restaurants (-30.5%), and clothing (-14.6%).
