Following the rise of investments in edtechs in Brazileducation startups have received US$ 222.5 million in investments in the first quarter this year, an increase of 770% compared to last year – Curseria, an education platform that offers courses taught by renowned and prominent professionals in their areas, has just announced a BRL 25 million Series A led by venture capital manager Igah, Ventures.

Curseria defines itself as a “platform for education and inspiration,” since its major differential is to have celebrities and renowned professionals in the area of each course as teachers, such as of the Music Composition course given by Marcelo D2; the Audiovisual Content course with Porta dos Fundos or the Communication Techniques course with Galvão Bueno. Founded in 2017, the platform has already trained more than 20,000 students.

Besides the famous teaching staff, the edtech bets on well-produced courses, with cinematographic language. According to Danilo Ricchetti, founder of Curseria, the company’s proposal is to democratize access to distance learning, but with a twist.

“Our mission is to spread the knowledge of the greatest talents in Brazil through distance learning classes, turning idols into teachers, but mainly to bring a new model of consuming education in the country,” he said.

Igah, a manager with 59 startups invested and more than BRL 250 million under management, usually brings to its portfolio companies with accelerated growth and bets precisely on Curseria’s ability to provide a different teaching experience from that offered by competitors.

“The courses offer cinema audiovisual quality and the teachers are Brazilian idols. In addition, the digital format makes large-scale dissemination possible,” explained Thiago Maluf, Managing Director at Igah, Ventures.

With the funds’ infusion, Curseria wants to give traction to its partnership with Insertion, a project that donates thousands of courses to Brazilian NGOs. The courses produced and launched by Curseria with the partnership’s brand will have all the proceeds going to NGOs. The first course, on Entrepreneurship and Digital Influence, will bring together celebrities such as presenter Luciano Huck, one of the names behind Igah, Ventures, the entrepreneur Luiza Trajano, founder of Magazine Luiza, and the producer Kondzilla.
