- Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO will account for 9 out of 10 of the region’s paying SVOD
Five US-based platforms – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV+ and HBO – will account for 88% of Latin America‘s paying SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) by the end of 2025. The forecast comes from Digital TV Research, published by BroadBandTVNews.
According to the study, the region will have 81 million SVOD subscriptions by 2025, or almost double the 42 million recorded at the end of 2019. To BroadBandNewsTv, Simon Murray, senior analyst at Digital TV Research, predicted that as the US-based players grow, local platforms will stall. Claro Video is often available free to its tops spending mobile subscribers and Telefonica/Movistar may sell its remaining non-Brazilian assets, according to him.
