A survey by the National Confederation of Shopkeepers (CNDL) and SPC Brasil, one of the country’s credit bureaus, revealed that 40% of electronic fraud victims in the country carelessly registered their personal data on websites with fake promotions. This was the main virtual scam applied in the country, followed by false job vacancies (39%) and fake buying sites (22%).
Also in the last 12 months, according to the two entities, almost 9 million Brazilians have been victims of cyber fraud. Credit card cloning accounted for 41% of these scams.

“E-commerce has consistently grown in Brazil due to a combination of diversity, competitive prices, convenience, and security in the most diverse consumer segments. However, many people do not take the necessary precautions in online transactions, which contributes to their deception, ” warned José César da Costa, president of CNDL, in a press release.
