Brazil’s four largest telecom carriers have refused to meet with a U.S. senior official who has been defending the exclusion of the Chinese giant Huawei from the Brazilian 5G equipment market, an industry source told Reuters on Friday. The situation was first reported by the Brazillian newspapers Folha de S.Paulo and Valor Econômico.
On Monday, the companies declined an invitation from Keith Krach, U.S. undersecretary of state for economic growth, energy, and the environment, a person in contact with telecom sector executives told Reuters.

In an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paulo in October, Sun Baocheng, Huawei‘s CEO in Brazil, said that if Jair Bolsonaro decides to ban Huawei, Brazilians will have to pay more for 5G connectivity.
