Mobile internet is the fastest growing telecom service in Mexico

Mobile network is the telecommunications sector that’s growing the most in Mexico. From June 2013 to December 2019, mobile internet service in the country had an increase of 255%, going from 27.4 million to 97.4 million, according to statistical information from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), reported by Milenio.

The report also shows that 70% of the 97.4 million subscriptions belong to Telcel, América Móvil‘s company, and 17% are from AT&T. Telefónica responds for 11% and 2% is Virtual Mobile Operators.

During the fourth quarter of 2019, almost 80% of the traffic was carried out through 4G technology, while the rest was through 3G technology. As for fixed internet access, in December 2019 there were 19.4 million accesses to this service, representing a growth of 63% compared to the 11.8 million accesses of 2013.

Telmex, of América Móvil, is the provider of 50% of the accesses registered in the last quarter of 2019, followed by 24% of accesses with Grupo Televisa as provider, 16% with Megacable and 8% with Total Play.
