The global streaming giant Netflix has just announced a multi-year deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to host the studio’s theatrical movies on its platform.
The deal guarantees Netflix will have streaming exclusivity for Sony films for a specified period of time. Thus, several of Sony’s major titles have been confirmed for exclusive streaming on Netflix after their theatrical release.
“Starting in 2022, Netflix will be the first U.S. streaming home for Sony Pictures films following their theatrical releases. Get ready for Uncharted, Morbius, Bullet Train & Where the Crawdads Sing, plus future sequels to Venom, Jumanji, Bad Boys & Spider-man: Into the spider-verse ”, Netflix tweeted.

The terms of the five-year deal were not disclosed. According to the Wall Street Journal, sources familiar with the deal said that “it would be worth several hundred million dollars annually and more than $ 1 billion over the course of the agreement. The precise figure will depend, in part, on the box office performance of the films.”

The Sony movie catalog will be available on Netflix from 2022, as until the end of this year, the rights to broadcast the films belong to the pay-TV channel Starz, from Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.
