Warner Music and Spotify have reached a new global agreement regarding music reproduction rights. Warner had previously sued the streaming giant days before its launch in India early last year, alleging irregularities in Spotify’s offer of Warner’s songs.
Through the new deal, Spotify can now offer the entire Warner Music catalog, without restriction, in all countries where it operates – India included.
“Spotify and Warner Music Group are pleased to announce a renewed global licensing partnership. This expanded deal covers countries where Spotify is available today, as well as additional markets. The two companies look forward to collaborating on impactful global initiatives for Warner artists and songwriters, and working together to grow the music industry over the long term,” the two companies said in a joint statement, according to TechCrunch.
A great number of songs from artists and bands such as Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, and Coldplay, are, from now, available for the first time to Spotify users in India, since all of these artists are represented by Warner Music. Financial terms of this new agreement were not disclosed.
