The news portal about innovation, startups, and venture capital, Startups.com.br, announced this Tuesday that it has raised BRL 1 million from the StartSe platform and the fintech company Conta Simples.
The site was founded by journalist Gustavo Brigatto in 2020, who has 15 years of experience in covering technology and innovation. “One piece of advice I received was that if it didn’t work out, I wouldn’t come out of it any worse. The Gustavo of today is different from the Gustavo of a year ago, I have more confidence. You are never 100% prepared, you gain scars and knowledge. I’m too happy with this moment,” he told LABS.

With the arrival of the new minority partners, the goal of Startups is to expand the team – which now has four employees – and grow in the audience in Brazil and Latin America. “We should hire up to five people in the next 12 months”, he said.
According to Brigatto, Startups.com intends to be the contact of the corporate education platform Startse with the world of founders of the new economy. On the Conta Simples side, the fintech sees Startups.com as a way of establishing itself as an authority in the world of fintechs.
The founder of Startups points out that the investment does not interfere with the editorial and operational independence of the mediatech firm. The site, which wants to be the TechCrunch of Latin America, started with a closed model, by subscription when the idea was to have a smaller scale.
“It worked, but subscription limits it in terms of reach. With the market the way it is, it made sense to switch to the paid media route to increase relevance.”
Since October, Startups.com’s remuneration has been through advertising. The site has received about 30,000 unique visitors per month and has a daily newsletter that reaches a qualified audience of more than 4,000 founders, investors, and professionals interested in the new economy.
On social media, there are more than 30,000 followers on LinkedIn, Instagram profiles. Besides the website and the newsletter, Startups has the podcast MVP, which brings conversations with those who move the business world.
