TikTok parent company to launch Google-like remote work platform

As COVID-19 lockdown triggered a spike in demand for remote work apps, TikTok‘s parent company, Bytedance is preparing to launch a Google-like suite of office work tools as soon as this month, says Bloomberg. The coronavirus outbreak has pushed millions of Chinese workers out of offices, working from home. DingTalk from Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. was the most downloaded free app on China’s iOS App Store for weeks, as Bloomberg says.

A lot of companies are being financially damaged due to the outbreak, Amazon may increase online sales while people stay more at home. Bytedance also saw a way to revert losses.

Bytedance Inc., as Bloomberg tells, became the world’s most valuable startup on the strength of its viral consumer apps like TikTok and news aggregator Toutiao. Last year it made a test: quietly released a remote-work app called Lark that combined elements of Slack, Dropbox, Google Docs and Skype. Now, the enterprise service may focus on a cloud-based file management, such as Google Drive.
