The upcoming streaming service of media giant NBCUniversal has just been baptized as Peacock. To be launched in April 2020, the service will be available with both an advertising and subscription model, up from the date of the release. Information is from the specialized portal ComingSoon.
Among the new shows in development, a reboot of the series “Battlestar Galactica“ from the same creator of “Mr. Robot”, revivals of “Saved by the Bell”and “Punky Brewster”, and the second original Psych movie, titled “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home”.
But besides the new originals to be produced, what will actually sharpen the streaming war will be the pile of popular shows whose rights will be taken back by NBCUniversal: in addition to The Office, other shows set to stream on the service include Parks and Recreation, Bates Motel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Downton Abbey, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and many others.
Peacock is the latest entry in the streaming battle among some other giants in the industry. Players like WarnerMedia, Disney, Amazon, and Apple have already taken over what was once a solo role for Netflix.
