  • Uber and São Paulo are reopening the Leisure Bike Lane in the city under the sponsorship of Uber;
  • The Leisure Cycle Lane will resume operating at the same times and stretches as before;
  • The company will also offer users the security conditions required by the government and the signaling will be complemented with messages to prevent the new coronavirus.

In partnership with the City Hall of São Paulo, Uber is relaunching the Leisure Bike Lane in the city (Ciclofaixa de Lazer), marking yet another stage of resumption of activities in the city amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the sponsorship of Uber, the Leisure Bike Lane will return to operate on the same stretches and times as before. “From July 19th, on Sundays and municipal and national holidays, São Paulo will once again receive the Ciclofaixa de Lazer project in partnership with Uber,” Uber stated in a company blog post. “There are hundreds of kilometers that cut across the city, allowing cyclists to circulate and São Paulo residents to safely do an outdoor activity.” The bike lane’s opening hours are from 7 am to 4 pm.

Last week, Uber informed through a memo that its electric scooter operations were discontinued in the country, due to the merger of Uber’s micromobility operation with Lime. Scooter rental company Lime had already ended operations in Brazil earlier in January.

“The so-called new normal is an opportunity for all of us, who live in São Paulo, to rethink our relationship with the car and how it affects our city,” says Claudia Woods, general director of Uber in Brazil. “Uber has a very important role to play in that, encouraging people to put aside the habit of driving alone and putting as many transport options as possible into their hands.”
