Uber effectively left Colombia last Saturday, February 1st. On December 30 of last year, however, in announcing its decision, Uber also notified the Colombian government that it considering taking its dispute with the Andean country to international arbitration. This Monday the company has reiterated its intention to do so. The information is from the Colombian newspaper La Republica.

In a statement, the company says that “the Colombian State failed to provide Uber and its investments the same favorable treatment that Colombia provides to Colombian and third-country investors in the mobility platform industry; that the Colombian government breached its obligation to provide fair and equitable treatment to US investors; and that likewise, the Colombian State breached the Treaty by adopting measures that have expropriatory effects and have caused millions of damages to the company.”

Despite the restrictions to Uber, other transportation applications continue to operate in the country. The company, which estimated the damage incurred at $250 million, also told La Republica that it is being discriminated, since similar measures have not been taken against Uber’s competitors in the local market.
