The financial authority also stated that the registration within PIX can be done whenever the account holder wants, with no deadline. Besides, the PIX key is just a facilitator to receive a PIX. Without the key, it is possible to make a PIX with manual data entry, as long as the two accounts involved in the transaction are from institutions that have joined the instant payment system.

The Brazilian Central Bank did not approve 218 institutions to offer PIX, which represents 22% of the total that had requested this approval in June, according to data released by the Central Bank on Thursday.

According to the authority, these institutions were not considered suitable for entry into operation or were excluded on request. Alipay Brasil, for example, was among the companies in the process of joining but did not enter the list released at the end of this morning. Alipay is the digital payment platform of the Chinese group Alibaba. Banco XP is also not among those approved by the Central Bank, nor are Paypal Brasil and Banco A J Renner S.A.
