In just three weeks, 17 million U.S. workers have filed to unemployment claims. The number surprised several experts, but it is not even comparable to the figures from Brazil, one of the countries with the largest contingents of informal workers in the world.
The state-owned bank Caixa Econômica Federal has already received the registration of 32.2 million Brazilians for the emergency aid of BRL 600,00 offered by the federal government to self-employed, informal professionals and workers in intermittent inactive work. The aid aims to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

According to the institution, 40.1% of them opted for receiving the aid via digital saving accounts. In total, Caixa says it received 272 million visits to its website since last Tuesday, and the program was launched.

Only this Saturday, according to Estadão Conteúdo media outlet, 643,700 calls were received. In total, since the beginning of the registration, 9.6 million calls were made, in addition to 33.5 million downloads of the application.
Payments will begin to be made this Monday (13th), and will be repeated in May and June.
