  • Netflix sci-fi drama 3%, the first original Brazilian series produced by the company, reaches its final season and premieres on August 14 on Netflix Brasil;
  • Netflix gathered 1.75 million new subscribers in Latin America during Q2, reaching a total amount of 36.07 million users in the region;
  • Latin America is the third region with most Netflix subscribers.

Netflix, which amassed 1.75 million new subscribers in Latin America during Q2, announced this Wednesday its fresh additions for the Brazilian library. The streaming giant will launch the fourth and final season of 3%, a Brazilian science fiction series, on August 14.

“We are always searching for the best stories to tell from different perspectives and cultures, no matter the format, and for that, we work with established talents and new voices. Pedro Aguilera is a good example of this – fresh out of college, he created our first original Brazilian series, 3%, whose first season had half of its audience coming from outside Brazil,” Netflix Brasil told LABS in an interview in June.

In 3% last season, the conflict between Concha and Maralto is wide open and a war is imminent. But, while Process 108 begins under new and even more aggressive leadership, members of the Concha are invited to a diplomatic visit to Maralto. The peace proposal ends up being the pretext for the destruction that will define the future of this divided world. Image: Netflix

With a total amount of 36.07 million users, Latin America is the third region with most Netflix subscribers. But when it comes to production, the company revealed that is adopting specific approaches to each market since the new coronavirus pandemic is behaving differently around the world. “Parts of the world like India and some of Latin America are also more challenging and we are hoping to restart later in the year in this region,” Netflix wrote.

British website specializing in researching and comparing technology services CompariTech released a survey in June disclosing Brazil as the third-largest market for Netflix worldwide. According to the research, outside the US, Brazil accounts for the second-largest number of subscribers: 16,364 million in 2020’s first-quarter, which would account for almost half of all subscribers in Latin America. CompariTech‘s projections considered the Q1 results published by the company in April.
