Netflix announced on Monday that it has started to produce the remake of Rebelde, set to debut on the streaming platform in 2022. Netflix is shooting the new production in Mexico City, capital of the country that launched the most popular version of the teen soap opera in 2004.
Rebelde will be starring Azul Guaita, Sergio Mayer Mori, Andrea Chaparro, Jeronimo Cantillo, Franco Masini, Lizeth Selene, Alejandro Puente and Giovanna Grigio and is being produced by Woo Films y Propagate.
The series is based on the story of Cris Morena Group and Dori Media Group adapted later by the Mexican mass media company Televisa.
Earlier in January, Netflix announced a US$ 300 million investment in more than 50 original productions in Mexico. The country was also chosen by the streaming giant to host its headquarters for Latin America.
“We are also excited to open our Latin American headquarters in Mexico City this year. We expect that by the end of 2021, our regional office will have more than 100 employees,” said Netflix at the time.
