Peru's Congress choose Francisco Sagasti as temporarily President

After Peru’s President Manuel Merino resignation, Peruvian Congress voted for Francisco Sagasti to be the new temporarily President. Peru’s elections will be in April 2021 and Sagasti will assume the presidency up to July 28, 2021, reported Diario Financiero.

Now, Sagasti is the third President of Peru in less than three weeks. Leader of the Parliament, Merino assumed the Presidency after Martín Vizcarra’s impeachment on the 9th over corruption allegations. The impeachment led protests in Peru, which pressured Merino to resign.
