Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud-computing division of Amazon, is launching Outposts in Brazil this week, as the company announced general availability of fully managed and configurable racks of AWS-designed hardware.
Outposts assists customers with running AWS compute, database, storage, and other on-premise services while connecting to AWS cloud services, bringing native AWS services, infrastructure, and operating models to data centres, co-location spaces, or on-premises facilities.
With it, AWS hopes to serve companies that, for a variety of reasons, still need to keep their workloads operating locally for several years. This also applies to latency-sensitive applications, which must remain very close to the systems they run.
Examples of these use cases include supporting process control solutions in factories, running robotic applications in the vicinity of equipment, developing high frequency securities trading platforms, or providing virtualization services on telecommunications.

Customers with these requirements are looking for the ability to perform computing and ample storage on their premises. Allied to this, they also seek to integrate these workloads uniformly and continuously with the rest of their applications, which in turn are running in the AWS cloud. This hybrid operation was not possible in Brazil until now, since the solutions lacked the APIs, tools and hardware, as well as the same local and cloud functionalities to offer a truly reliable experience.
