Brazil is Netflix's 3rd largest market in terms of revenue, and the 2nd in number of subscribers

A new analysis by the British website specializing in researching and comparing technology services CompariTech shows that Brazil is the third-largest market for Netflix worldwide, and that, outside the United States, Brazil accounts for the second-largest number of subscribers: 16,364 million in 2020’s first-quarter, which would account for almost half of all subscribers in Latin America.

CompariTech‘s projections consider the Q1 results disclosed by the company in April, and the average monthly revenue per membership in each region to estimate subscribers and revenue numbers in 20 countries.

According to the analysis, in terms of total revenue, Brazil ($395,7 million) occupies the third position among the Netflix’s analyzed markets, behind the United Kingdom ($460 million) and the United States ($2.4 billion in revenue).

Latin America as a whole accounted for $793,4 million in revenues in the first quarter of 2020. The region is the second in the number of subscribers, behind the United States, which has 63 million subscriptions.

The biggest revenue growth by region came from Asia-Pacific (15.67%), due to a 22.19% high in subscriber figures, followed by Europe, Middle East, and Africa (10.3%), and Latin America (6.31%). In contrast, the growth in revenue in the US and Canada has plateaued over the last year.

Brazil, although presenting a constant growth in the subscriber base, does not have a significant increase in terms of average revenue per membership, according to CompariTech, due to the devaluation of its currency. On average, each subscriber in Brazil offers $8.05 in revenue to Netflix, in contrast to $10.40 in the UK, and $13.09 in the United States.
