Although Facebook fills a delicate spot when it comes to data handling, the social media giant has just launched this Monday, 25, a new platform aiming exactly at collecting user information. Called Viewpoints, the mobile app will work as a rewarding program, where the user will be able to collect points by responding surveys, tasks, and research, and, in return, receive money directly in a PayPal account.

According to information provided in an official blog post by the company, Facebook Viewpoints’ main goal is collecting insights from users in order to enhance its products and apps such as Instagram, Whatsapp, and Facebook itself. However, the company claims that it won’t sell this data for third parties, neither publicly share the user’s activity in other linked accounts without permission.

Kicking-off the platform with a survey focused on well-being, the program will ask the user for information such as name, email address, country of residence, date of birth and gender. “We want to better understand how the use of social media like Facebook can impact people’s well-being, so we’re launching the Well-Being Survey. Information from this survey will help us build better products that aim to limit the negative impacts of social media and enhance the benefits,” said the blog post on Facebook’s website.
