Facebook Pay, payments arm of the big tech launched in 2019, is now available in Brazil for some Facebook‘s users. The company said that over time, Facebook Pay will be launched in other apps and countries.
Facebook Pay is integrated method for making payments on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. In Brazil, WhatsApp is only allowed to make peer-to-peer (P2P) payments, not involving merchants (P2M), unlike the free PIX service, which can be used to pay businesses and individuals. Facebook is still seeking approval to operate with merchants. Currently, the agreement for the use of Facebook Pay has only Cielo as the partner acquirer.
In Brazil, to start using Facebook Pay on Facebook, users got to go to Facebook> Settings> Facebook Pay and add the preferred payment method, be it credit card, debit card or PayPal.
According to the big tech, Facebook Pay is being launched for Facebook. In the future, when Facebook Pay is available for Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, it will not be necessary to have a Facebook account to use it. Facebook Pay can be configured directly within each application.
