Google Cloud chooses Santiago as its second region in Latin America

This is the company's second region in Latin America, after São Paulo

Google has a data center in Quilicura, Chile, since 2015, connecting Latin American users with services like YouTube, Google Photos, and Gmail. But with the increasing demand for cloud services, the company has announced this Wednesday that it will open a “Google Cloud region” in Santiago–is the company’s second region in Latin America, after São Paulo.

With this new region, Google Cloud customers operating in Chile will benefit from low-latency, high-performance Google Cloud Platform services, and companies around the world will be better able to reach users in Latin America. This new region will also help national companies that have specific regulatory or compliance needs, such as Banco de Chile and Falabella Financiero.

According to Google Cloud’s president for Latin America, Eduardo López, Chile is a country that “promotes an atmosphere of innovation and has developed cutting-edge policies and programs that foster the growth of the Internet”.

Around the world, Google Cloud currently has service 23 Cloud regions and 70 availability zones.
