Zoom-like layout and Gmail integration: Google's Meet tool will change

Google VP Javier Soltero talked to Reuters about it

  • And will have its video quality improved with dim lighting and filtering of background noise.

Google’s Meet video tool, which is used by schools, businesses and governments, including several institutions from the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic, is being remodeled. According to an interview from Google VP Javier Soltero to Reuters, the tool, that it’s different from the consumer-focused tool Hangouts, will have a Zoom-like layout, and it will be integrated with Gmail.

Soltero said that Meet has added daily users faster than any other Google service since January. Later this month Meet will offer a layout displaying up to 16 participants at once and it will have its video quality improved with dim lighting and filtering of background noise.

Soltero did not reveal Meet’s user growth rate to Reuters but said that a recent peak brought 60% more users than a day earlier.
