Instagram began to roll out the integration with messaging app Facebook Messenger. On Friday, the social network started to show a pop-up message to users with an option to activate the feature that connects the chat tools of the two platforms.
The first signs of the update appeared to users as soon as they opened the app, through the notification “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram”, showing the features to be enabled within Instagram DM if users allow the integration. A “new colorful look for your chats,” more emoji reactions, swipe-to-reply, and “chat with friends who use Facebook,” are among the changes.
As soon as users hit update, the regular DM icon in the top right of the Instagram app is replaced by the Messenger logo.

Such integrations between Facebook’s platforms are expected at least since last year. In early 2019, Mark Zuckerberg confirmed plans to integrate WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. “We plan to start by making it possible for you to send messages to your contacts using any of our services, and then to extend that interoperability to SMS too,” he said at the time.
