Kwai, TikTok competitor's short video app, opens office in Brazil

According to the Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo, TikTok‘s rival short video application is opening an office in the city of São Paulo. Kwai said it already has a base of 7 million daily active users in the country, and 200 million worldwide.

But most of these users, according to the newspaper, use the app under another name Kuaishou, as it is known in his homeland.

“We want to make Brazil our main market outside of China. It is a country with a large population, interested in social networking, in a market with many opportunities, ”said Yumi Wu, director of global operations at Kwai. Brazil will be the first country to have a localization strategy within the app.

To win the Brazilians’s hearts, the app will also have to allow video sharing via Whatsapp. In China, Wu explained to the newspaper, users share the content they produce within Kwai itself, but also via other social networks and WeChat messaging services. According to Estadão, at PlayStore, Kwai describes itself as a “videos for WhatsApp Status” application.
