Spotify seems to be building out a new video player on the “Now Playing” user interface, according to 9to5Google. The move would put the streaming platform in a direct competition with YouTube Music.

As revealed by Jane Wong who shared the news on Twitter, Spotify is apparently planning to create a tabbed interface for the “Now Playing” screen which enables different options for what content is shown on that screen.

These new tabs would include typical album art, on “Canvas,” and an entirely new video section.

The “Canvas” section is a feature that already shows a brief video clip in place of album art, but not a full music video. However, the video tab would show full music videos within the app. The platform says it’s “still exploring” the feature.
