Chinese video app TikTok has just reached an important milestone and hit more than 1.5 billion downloads worldwide, surpassing social media giants like Facebook and Instagram.
The information, provided by the mobile intelligence firm Sensor Tower, disclosed that, currently, TikTok is the third most downloaded app, only after WhatsApp and Messenger. By country, the report also revealed that India comes first with just over 466 million downloads, followed by China (173 million), and US (123 million).
A trend among Gen Z users, TikTok is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms, and has registered 500 million downloads since February this year and is available in 75 languages across more than 150 countries. ByteDance, the company behind the app has been attracting investors and has already raised more than $4 billion in investment from players such as SoftBank, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley.
