WhatsApp video call is allowing 8 people; and soon it may support up to 50

The messaging app is testing a possible integration with the new Facebook Rooms feature

A few days ago, Facebook announced a new videoconferencing feature for up to 50 people, called Rooms, on its Messenger app. Now the latest WhatsApp update brings support for encrypted video calls between up to 8 people.

And the company’s plans for this feature won’t stop there. According to WABetaInfo website, the Rooms service is on its way to be integrated to WhatsApp and Instagram

Preparations for the feature in WhatsApp have started, as CanalTech reported, with a new shortcut to create a video conference room appearing in beta version. The new button is currently being tested near shortcuts for sharing photos, locations or contacts.

Other screens where the shortcut is being tested include a “Calls” tab and a list of contacts displayed when starting a group call.

Rooms is a videoconferencing service for up to 50 people, who can use their computer or cell phone to communicate with each other. You don’t have to have the Messenger app or a social network account to join a meeting room.
