Air Nostrum will be the first foreign airline to operate domestic flights in Brazil

The announcement was made this Friday by the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac)

The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) announced on Friday (7) that the Spanish airline Air Nostrum, also known as regional Iberia, will be the first foreign company to operate domestic routes in Brazil.

Air Nostrum’s operation is expected to start in the second half of 2020. According to the statement by Anac, the company must adopt another name to operate on regional routes.

Two regulatory measures made this possible: the law No. 13,842 / 19, which allowed companies with up to 100% foreign capital to compete in the Brazilian domestic air market; and the waiver of payment for baggage clearance, which was extinguished in 2016.

It was with this last measure, that low cost airlines, such as Norwegian, Sky Airlines, Flybondi and Jetsmart, started offering flights from Brazil to Europe and other Latin American countries.
