According to information from the newspaper Valor Econômico, Brazil and Argentina reached an agreement to increase the limit of commercial flights between the other countries, during the Mercosur Summit meeting held in the city of Bento Gonçalves (RS), Southern Brazil. According to the newspaper, this deal had been dragging on for over a decade.

The number of flight frequencies will rise from the current 133 to 170 per week. Under the agreement, there will also be no limit on cargo flights between the two countries. Due to the high passenger demand between the two countries, the previously agreed limit had already been exceeded for a long time.

As a result, some surplus operations, such as the ones from the Brazilian airline Azul, were being authorized on the basis of another regional agreement, called the Fortaleza Agreement, which allows extra flights outside Brazil’s main international airports (Guarulhos and Galeão).
