The Brazilian government had already banned, for 30 days, the entry of foreigners coming from European Union member countries and some Asian countries. The measure has now been extended to foreigners of all nationalities.

On March, 19th, Brazil had already announced the closure of its land borders with its neighbors in South America for a period of 15 days.

The measure does not apply to Brazilians and foreigners in the following cases:
- immigrant with permanent residence, for a fixed or indefinite period, in Brazilian territory;
- foreign professional on mission serving an international organization;
- foreign employee accredited to the Brazilian government;
- foreigners who are a spouse, partner, child, father or curator of a Brazilian;
- foreigners whose entry is specifically authorized by the Brazilian government in view of the public interest;
- bearer of the National Migration Registry.
