The Brazilian health regulator Anvisa will decide at a meeting on Sunday, January 17, whether to authorize the emergency use of two vaccines against COVID-19: that of Oxford, which will be manufactured by Fiocruz in a partnership with AstraZeneca; and CoronaVac, from the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, which has a partnership for local production with the Butantan Institute.
Both Fiocruz and Butantan filed the request for the emergency use of the immunizers last Friday. According to CBN radio, the meeting will be broadcast live on the agency’s YouTube.
The two vaccines are the country’s greatest hopes as they have been tested in Brazil and produced in the country. Fiocruz and Butantan are also expected to produce both vaccines for other Latin American countries interested in the two immunizers.
