Bolivian authorities arrested the health minister Marcelo Navajas and opened an investigation of potential corruption over allegations that officials bought ventilators at inflated prices, underscoring the global challenge to prevent graft in the coronavirus pandemic, according to Reuters.
The Bolivian government received Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funds to buy the devices and now the government is accused of overpricing for 179 ventilators bought in Spain. Bolivia paid $27,683 for each equipment, but the company sells the product to other buyers for less than $11,000.
