Brazilian researchers are developing a serum for the treatment of COVID-19 from the plasma of horses, which presented neutralizing antibodies against the new coronavirus that were more potent than those developed by people who became ill, reported the newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo. The researchers are awaiting approval from Anvisa to start testing on humans.
According to the report, the serum was produced from the introduction of Sars-CoV-2 in horses. It was found that, 70 days later, the animals’ plasmas had antibodies up to 150 times more potent than those produced by humans.
If tests on humans show good results, the researchers hope to make the treatment viable by June.
