Chile and Uruguay lead number of vaccinated per 100 people in Latin America

Vaccination against COVID-19 for people aged 50 to 70 began on Monday in the regions of Uruguay that border Brazil, reported UOL. The Uruguayan government has divested part of the doses left over from other regions to reinforce vaccination on the border with Brazil, in an attempt to stop new variants.

Uruguay, alongside Chile, are the countries that lead in number of vaccinated per 100 people in South America, according to Our World in Data information. Chile vaccinated 36.59 while Uruguay vaccinated 6.11, followed by Brazil (5.60), Argentina (5.32), Mexico (3.42) and Colombia (1.36).

According to The New York Times, the number of new COVID-19 cases is declining in countries that have vaccinated a large share of residents, like Israel, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US.
