Chilean economy plummeted 14% in April, preliminary data indicates

The Chilean economy slumped 14.1% Year-Over-Year in April, according to preliminary data disclosed this Monday. The economic activity was affected by measures taken to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country, said the Chilean Central Bank.

The Monthly Economic Activity Indicator (Imacec) drop represents around 90% of Chilean GDP. “The most affected activities were services and commerce, and, to a lesser extent, construction and manufacturing,” Central Bank said in a statement.
