China temporarily closes borders to foreigners arriving from abroad

Showing concern about importing new coronavirus cases, as the number decreases in the country but grows worldwide, China will close its borders to foreigners as of next Saturday, 28, according to a note posted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Immigration.

The closure will affect foreigners holding valid visas and residence permits, and it’s not clear to the date how long will this remain in place. Diplomats, plane or vessel crews, and other particular types of visas will be exempted.

“The suspension is a temporary measure that China is compelled to take in light of the outbreak situation and the practices of other countries,” the note said. “China will stay in close touch with all sides and properly handle personnel exchanges with the rest of the world under the special circumstances.”
