COVID-19 has caused 1 million deaths worldwide

The coronavirus pandemic hit one million deaths worldwide, about eight months after the first case of the disease was reported in China, in late 2019. The first official death due to the coronavirus was on January 11th.

The data is based on statistics gathered by The Johns Hopkins University, which registered 1,002,676 deaths until now. Brazil, one of the hardest hit by COVID-19, recorded 385 deaths in the last 24 hours, reaching 142,161 deaths. Mexico has 76,603 deaths and Peru has 32,324.
