Latin America and the Caribbean brace for the most severe downturn in history

The economies of Latin America and the Caribbean will contract 5.3% in 2020 as the coronavirus outbreak affects countries’ GDPs. The forecast, if confirmed, would represent a record decline for the region with serious consequences in employment and poverty rates, according to a new report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a United Nations agency.
