According to Agência Brasil, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 18th edition of the Rio de Janeiro Marathon will take place virtually.
To participate, runners will need to download the Running Heroes application on their mobile phones, available for download at Apple and PlayStore stores, and record their times between next Friday, October 9th, and Monday, October 12th.
As in previous editions, this year it will also be possible to choose one of four routes: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km or 5 km.
All registered runners will be contributing to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. For each kilometer, a sum of money will be donated to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in Rio de Janeiro, to enable treatments and ways to prevent the disease.
In the last two years, the Rio Marathon brought together about 40,000 participants.
