Mexico’s health ministry reported 5,928 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infection and 504 additional fatalities, bringing the total in the country to 549,734 cases and 59,610 deaths. Mexico has been battling the world’s third worst outbreak of the disease, behind the U.S. and Brazil.
The government has said the real number of infected people is likely significantly higher than the confirmed cases.
Earlier on Friday the World Health Organization’s Dr Mike Ryan said the scale of the coronavirus pandemic in the country is “under-represented” and “under-recognised” as testing is too limited.
