This Saturday Brazil reached 10,017 deaths due to the new coronavirus. This places the Latin American country as the sixth most deadly due to the disease, behind the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, and France.
The first official death from the new coronavirus in Brazil happened 53 days ago, March 17th. Since then, the country has confirmed more than 146,000 cases of COVID-19
It is important to remember that there is underreporting of cases in the country, due to the lack of tests. Only the most seriously ill are tested by the public health system. Research, such as the one from Imperial College, or even one conducted by Brazilian universities, estimates that the actual number of infected people and deaths is much higher than that registered.
