Paraguay froze the 100,000 doses of the Covaxin vaccine against COVID-19 that it received from India Bharat Biotech laboratory. Paraguay doesn’t have its own health regulator agency, so it pends health decisions based on Brazil’s Anvisa and Mexico’s Cofepris.
Last week, Anvisa denied the certification of good manufacturing practices to Bharat Biotech. Among the problems pointed out are health, quality control and safety issues in the manufacture of the immunizing agent, reported UOL, according to EFE.
As EFE noticed, Maria Antonieta Gamarra, director of Health Surveillance of the Paraguayan Ministry of Health stated that these vaccines will remain frozen until Paraguay can verify their safety and effectiveness.
