Seeking to maintain the Brazilian internet infrastructure, Globoplay, a Brazilian subscription video on demand platform, and other online video services of Globo media group will reduce the quality of streaming as of this Monday (23).

“This is a measure of solidarity and responsibility”, said Raymundo Barros, Globo’s director of technology, according to media outlet G1. “We have to act proactively to avoid a scenario of collapse in the Brazilian Internet infrastructure at such a delicate moment, when digital services are fundamental for the community.”

As streaming services are seeing a huge spike in usage with more people staying indoors during the coronavirus outbreak; other companies have also adopted such measures, like Netflix in Europe, Amazon, with its Prime Video, and Youtube, according to Reuters.
