Uruguay, one of the countries with the highest rate of immunized citizens (70%), announced this week that it will offer a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people with moderate and severe immunosuppression due to different pathologies, and also to those immunized with Sinovac‘s CoronaVac.
Following the suggestion of the commission that advises the government on vaccination issues, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) decided last Tuesday to “offer a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to moderately and severely immunosuppressed people.” The ministry explained that the decision is due “to the verification of the lower immune response of this population to the primary vaccination scheme.”
Those who have received the immunizers from Pfizer/BioNTech or Oxford/Astrazeneca may be re-inoculated, one month after the second dose, with a third injection from Pfizer.
On Thursday, MSP also announced that all those vaccinated with Sinovac’s CoronaVac against COVID-19 will receive a third dose from Pfizer.
